The basics: Fark is a site where slightly twisted geeks post news items and comment on them. "It's not news, it's Fark" pretty much sums it up. It's not the first place to go to see what's going on, but it's a good place to go to see what the mindset of geeks around the world think about what's going on.

There are a handful of contests that take place on Fark including very popular Photoshop contests and Farktography, which is for photography..

There's one problem with a cheapskate participating in Farktography. Fark has a paid subscription service called "Total Fark" where subscribers get to see every news item submitted, including ones that suck, before they're green-lighted and posted to the general Fark main site where everyone can see them. Benefit to non-subscribers: you don't see news items that suck. Benefit to Total Farkers: you get first crack at Farktography before the cheapskates can even look at it, much less participate.

Anyway, I'm a cheapskate and don't get to post my entries to Farktography until after green-light time, sometimes many hours after green-light time, sometimes after a lot of people have already evaluated the thread, cast their votes and will not return to see what additional late entries might show up. Between that and iffy entries quality-wise, I don't get a lot of votes. This is not a big concern.

To the left are the Farktography entries ranked by number of votes each earned. We'll also include the theme of the contest, its date, and the entry's placing in the overall voting. You'll see at this date (early August 2006) I have yet to earn a top-ten and that's probably not going to change anytime soon. But we keep trying.

Just for the record, a winning entry will usually eclipse 40 votes. Some real kick-ass entries get over 100. I've broken ten once. (news flash: twice now!)
